Letting go of the old stories – choosing what to bring with you.

What are you choosing to bring with you?

We are packing up our house – and it is a whopping task!  We have lived here for 24 years, and we are choosing as to what things are coming with us to Somerset and what things we are letting go of, giving away, selling or putting in the bin.  This task is taking time.  I am getting distracted by letters that I am re reading – and enjoying the flood of memories from objects that have been hidden in boxes for so many years.

There is a ‘time for everything’. (Ecclesiastes, 3 1-8 says it all to perfection) .  For me now this is a time for letting go and choosing as to what is coming with me.  This is also a time of acknowledging the past and also acknowledging that I am moving into a new future that I am not completely certain as to how it will look like.  What I do hope though is to choose wisely as to what is coming with me into the future.

There is the opportunity for a bit of a reset now.  It does not take the packing of a house to start this, but it is a great trigger!  I wonder how you are doing?  Are you feeling that you too need to let go of some old patters, move away from habits that are distracting you from what you would actually rather be doing?  Perhaps your procrastination comes from just finding excuses that subconsciously keep you very safe and secure from ‘getting out there’.  Could this be because the concerns of the ‘ripple effect’ are just too unknown and out of your control?   Perhaps you are so stuck in the record of your thought life that you are not even aware that you are thinking such limiting thoughts.  I know that I have much of all of the above.

I do wonder though what it would feel like to just completely let go of the weight of overthinking – to be free of the fear – and just take the radical, adventurous, exciting, challenging next step – trusting that I will figure it out and can do so.

So, with the letting go, hold the picture in your head of how you want to be showing up.  How do you want your energy levels to be?  How do you want others to feel after they have been with you?  What does your very best self think and be?  What would you like the impact of your ripple effect to cause? Imagine just letting go of those old stories.  What is the new story?

Trust that you can do what you need to do in when the time arises.   You have done it before, many times, though the scenarios might differ.  We do constantly need to reevaluate and reset if we want to keep growing.  But we also need to be mindfully conscious of our thinking.

In short, how do you want to show up in the future?  Take with you what you need – and keep letting go of the baggage the you do not need.  Review. Reset. Renew.
