I was making some notes after meeting with a client who was feeling rather bored and lethargic in her work. It is Monday morning and already I could see that she was disinterested in her week ahead. She had already ‘checked out’ from the urgencies of her work and with that was not doing what she was contracted to do. In the process she was letting down her team and above all, herself.
In a nutshell, I reminded her that sometimes we have to just put in the effort, the self talk and the right attitude to create the necessary motivation to get the work done. This, you CAN do. Expect better of yourself and for yourself.
Are YOU going into Monday with dread – I SO hope not, but if you are then you need to watch out that this dread does to perpetuate and flow into Tuesday, Wednesday and so on and so on.
The question then is: how are you lighting up your Monday Motivation to make this week ahead a great one?
I know that you might not be feeling full of energy to do your work – you might be lethargic and bored by the jobs at hand … HOWEVER you have the absolute ABILITY to SUMON the energy needed to get all those seemingly dull tasks done with a smile on your face – and even abit of toe tapping.
You have the incredible capacity to put JOY into your week, to push the momentum forward, to keep making progress – you can do this even when you have so much on your plate and it is easy to feel discouraged and despairing.
Finding the Monday drive –
What happened over the weekend. Did your REST? Have you had a weekend that sets you up for great success for the week to come? Have you put in some habits that help you even when things are tough and you are needing to persevere.
Each moment of each day is actually dictated by the last 72 hours – how you slept, how you moved and how you ate. This is important to remember – as on Monday you want to have the mental clarity and physical vibrancy – setting yourself up for GOOD ENERGY – needed to accomplish what you want to be doing.
Upping your capacity for having a happy Monday also comes from a mindset of SERVING others, of doing something for those around you (even if they do not acknowledge your actions).
Monday drive also has lots to do with YOUR VISION too. What are you wanting to achieve. Your PROGRESS has lots to do with your PRIORITISATION. So, on Monday see your future self, see yourself as having accomplished that vision for yourself.
HOW YOU CAN DO THIS: Plan the major tasks that MUST be done this week. Create an agreement with yourself as to what is very necessary for you to day (and will be done by Finishing Friday). Create some clarity – think about the goal, be fired up by it, think if and feel it – and then get going avoiding distractions.
And when your motivation wanes because the going is getting tough and your are resisting the work, be tough on yourself. Say NO to procrastination and commit to honouring the struggle. This obstacle and resistance is NOT to shut you down but, harnessed, can STRENGTHEN AND ACTIVATE you, creating the best of WHO you are. Others before you have gone thought similar struggles – you definitely can too. “I don’t like this BUT I will do the best that I can”.
And make your work fun for yourself. Smile. And crush it! Also, keep giving yourself congratulatory pats on the back as you keep going. This is so encouraging and will help you to stay the course.
In short – so much of our day is monotonous – but it is your approach to your work that can change your day from being bored and disengaged to one of accomplishment and making a massive difference to both yourself and those around you. Your mood will inspire them too – of this I am sure.
Have a great week ahead.
