Values are: a set of ideas about HOW you want to live your life, the KIND of person you want to be and the PRINCIPLES you want to stand for.
Your values, the things that really do matter to you, might well change and adjust over time. However, however holding fast to your values helps steer your course in the right direction, which is especially useful when times are very challenging or you are not feeling as you would like to be.
Faith; family; relationships; caring; ambitious; health; best work; diligence – are some of the values that are core to me. I more often than not do not live up to them, HOWEVER it is when I am in flux and I ‘remember’ what really matters to me in the long term, that I find that I can adjust my course accordingly.
This afternoon is a case in point. I almost was so easily tempted to not finish the work that I set out to do, to go to the fridge and make a sandwich, and finish the World (distractions). However, because I had refreshed in my mind this morning what is really important to me and integral to what I am about – ‘best work and diligence’ popped into my mind. I want to give of my best, I want to be impactful in my work – and I called on my faith for steadfastness to keep me on the right path.
I am doing the work – and I know that I will feel happier tonight with a sense of completing “finishing Friday” well enough to be satisfied!
In short: reminding yourself each morning as to how you want to show up that day, will just give you the anchor in honouring yourself – and also give you the clarity when needed.

… What is important to you? What is it that makes you want to do the things that are difficult and perhaps not even that fun? What matters to the person whom you are wanting to be? What is your best self about?
