Do you notice that when paying a compliment to somebody, how swiftly they bat it back to you. I do this myself – somebody will say something nice to me and I feel awkward and play it down. This is a HABIT.
If you were to receive the compliments that people gave you, noticed the things in your life that were going well, acknowledge to yourself the things that you do and that you are pleased about – I think that we would be very happy and have the impetus to give more of yourself and try more. I think that you would gain confidence and you would give things a go. I think that if each of us saw ourselves through a clear lens, not one that is darkened by distracting and detrimental thinking, we would excel.
I love reading school reports and I make it my mission to look out for the words that are encouraging and show possibilities. A child might not be getting high scores for tests, however there are always words such as “tries; kind; attentive; potential; delight; witty; interested …..” And so the list continues. These are the words that open the gates to a good sense of self, and hopefulness.
My challenge to you today is to hear the compliments paid to you and RECEIVE THEM. Listen to the words being said, and thank the giver. AND inwardly you can say to yourself “wow, yes … that is me!”.
And also, start noticing things in others that you can compliment them about – and tell them. It makes their day, and yours!
