Keep resetting … it is so alright to do so.
Do you find yourself slipping back into old patterns? Do you notice times when you are doing things that you just do not want to be doing? Does your mind ‘play games with you’ as you find yourself so stuck in the same old repeated thoughts that are so debilitating?
What can you do to keep yourself moving forward? It really is so very easy to slip back into old patterns respond to triggering circumstances in ways that are just all too familiar, even if detrimental. I know this all too well. There are things that I have faced and have done the work inorder to future proof myself against behaviours that I no longer want. And yet, at the click of a finger, I find that I am doing the things that I thought were no longer a part of me. So now what?
I have to forgive that moment and let it go. I step into speaking to myself in a way that reassures me that it is alright and that I might well have had a step back into a pattern that I thought that I had completely let go of – but that is alright. NEXT TIME a similar situation occurs ….. I also have to consciously ‘reset’. I do this by having a glass of water and moving (perhaps by jogging on the spot or just tapping around my body inorder to get some blood flow going). And I remind myself that my brain feels reassured by these old patterns and actually it is just the thinking around them that adds to the inner judgements. The reality too is that, when reflecting back, so many good new patterns are in place! And so I actively need to stop dwelling and ruminating and rather power forward to the other better vision that I hold in my mind’s eye.
We do need to be mindful on what we are choosing to dwell on. And with this, we do become better and better at choosing better ways of showing up for ourselves. Also, though, I know that so often I have the slip ups – but I also know that I can ‘course correct’.
Hold that vision as to what you are pulling yourself towards. How do you want to show up today? How do you want to feel at the end of the day? Use this image to keep pulling you through.
