For those who have recently launched into their interview season, I suspect that you will find that your opportunity to interview starts gathering momentum. This happens once you start using LinkedIn effectively and begin the application process to both recruiters and directly to companies. The rounds of interviews are often ongoing – like going up a ladder, one step at a time.
Recently a client had a week filled with interviews. There was one company that stood out to him as a place that he would really like to be associated with and work for. He had had several rounds of interviews that all went well. He, however, did not get the position. The other contender had some other useful skills.
My young client was extremely disappointed but, with nothing to loose at all, he wrote a well thought out email requesting a meet up with the CEO, who had interviewed him on the final round. This initiative to reach out led to a coffee shop meeting. My client was also given a task to prepare too. All went well, the discussions were fruitful and now he is working for that company and very very happily so.
It was so worth his time to follow up and to really show wholeheartedly as to why he would be an excellent member of the team. He pushed on despite the initial response. The moral of the story – you might well hear ‘NO’ but it never means that the door is completely closed and with that it is is ALWAYS worth following through and finding another route to take.
