Drawing a line in the sand … letting go of all that is not true!

This weekend I was a part of the most wonderful and heart warming gathering of family and friends – the focus was on God.  We sang, talked, questioned and listened.  One of the big take aways for me was about drawing a line in the sand and just letting go of the stories that we have in our heads that have come from others and from ourselves – the stories that are just not true, but the stories that have stuck in a debilitating way.  For myself, I need to be reminded of this  over and over again.  It is something that daily – more than daily – I need to do … cross that line in the sand and mentally leave behind those whirring ‘not able and not enough’ thoughts and into some truths – I am able, I am capable, I have the ability, I am valuable to others.  This, I think, applies to all of us.

Clients of mine, no matter the age and stage that they are at, know that what really matters to me is what they are ruminating on.  What is holding them back from just embracing their real selves, their genuine selves.  I am curious about their thoughts as they approach their day ahead – or an interview.  And it really does matter.  Thoughts are not ‘real’ … they are thoughts and we have the power to choose what we dwell on.  We can upward spiral or down ward spiral, and though this can be bewildering to take on board – it is true.

I wonder if there is a throw away comment that you heard somebody say about you many years ago – and you have taken it on as your truth and made it a part of your story.  I wonder if you have had an experience in your past that was difficult for you but you have seen that event in other ways ever since.  I wonder if you use words about yourself that are on an ever running tape that you have yet to really challenge and stop in its tracks.  I suspect so!

Imagine just drawing a line in the sand and stepping over it, letting go of past dialogue and speaking words to yourself that come from a place of great kindness, great encouragement and upliftment.

How would a brilliant cheerleader motivate you?

How would a brilliant cheerleader speak to you and look like?

How would a brilliant cheerleader challenge and support you?

How would your day look like if you just stepped over that line in the and, with your cheerleader, and gave yourself a new outlook for today.

One day at a time – may today go so well.

What would you like to let go of today as you cross the line in the sand?

Just do it …

Drawing a line in the sand … letting go of all that is not true!
