I wonder what plans are beginning to be put into place for this new chapter beyond school? Are you exploring a new part of the country – or another country altogether? Perhaps you are working? Perhaps you still exploring ideas. What I do know, for sure, that in time you will look back and see the dots connect. It is once you get going and venturing into something that the other doors open up.
Last week I spoke honestly and openly about my journey post school. At the time, I was devastated by my exam results and because the university doors had closed (at this stage) I had to about turn. Working and learning new skills (I would say happily that my most useful skill is that I can touch type – and crotchet!) Is what followed before embarking on a short holiday to Kenya. The next 33 years were spent in South Africa! These years here have been the most rewarding, wonderful, interesting and challenging of times. They have been years that I am deeply grateful for. And it is only now, on looking back, can I see that amazing dots have connected – the journey thus far has been extraordinary. It was very unplanned, but it was because of that that I was able to accomplish what I did (and, by the way, I went to University later on in life, and made the very very most of it!).
Please have faith in where you are now. When that niggling, worrying voice torments you – just know that it really is just a voice in your head. Challenge it, and very proactively encourage yourself. Back yourself. Be open to new ideas. The best of journeys is not always as you plot and plan it to be. Often the best of journeys are made from the unknowns.
Whatever your A’level results, may this next chapter be challenging and rewarding. Trust this. Bravo!
